“Run away”

I picked the phrase run away because that’s what Johnny and Ponyboy did because Johnny killed one of the guys of the Soc. And that was because they were drowning Ponyboy and they were going to beat up Johnny. And he got out a blade and killed him. So they decided to run away because the sentence for killing somebody is the electric chair. So they didn’t want that to happen is they ran away. They got money and gun and hoped on a train to the country. So that’s why I picked that phrase run away because that’s what they did.

1. Identify situations in personal relationships that reflect power struggles.

Some personal relationships that reflect power struggles can be shown among friends, family, and ever husband and wife. Like among your friends there has to be one person that thinks they are the leader. So sometimes bosses the other friends around. But then that’s not a true friend. And also between the families the older sibling can boss to younger ones around. By said go get me this and that so there is a power struggle between the family and friends. So the husband can order has wife around like clean up the house and make me food. So theses are some examples of power struggles between relationships.

2. Give examples of personal experience of power struggle situations and what was the outcome.

An example of power struggle is that when I’m in a group project with this group. The people wanted to do everything their own way and not follow the direction. And that thought it was ok because they were the leader. And they started to boss others to do the work and finish the project. When the people bossing everybody around didn’t want to do anything.

3. When and how do use power in your interactions with others?

I use my power when I’m with my brother or sister and when I have to tell them to do their homework or to listen. And that’s how I use my power because I’m older than my brother and sister so I have to set a good example for them.

4. Where do you see or have seen power struggles occurring in your surroundings (Neighborhoods, Community, and Local Government)?

In my neighborhood or community there might a power struggle because some one might like one of the new rules in the community. Or they do not get along with somebody in the community or neighborhood. Also another power struggle is the war in Iraq. Their fought for oil and that will give the US. More power. So theses are some examples of power struggles.

“Family”

The word that i pick was family. The reason I picked family is becuase Soda, Darrel, and Ponyboy are brothers. Plus some of the greaser are like their family becuase they known them since they were little kids. So they all grow up together like one big family. In the first two chapters in “The Outsider” it talks and describes about family. The boys don’t have a father and mother becuase they died in a car wreck. So now they have to stay out of trouble becuase they all could stay together as a family.

1. What kind of relationships do you see in The Veldt.

I can see a relationship between the children and the room. The childrens’ relationship with the room is that the room is like their parents. The children have real parents and also they live with each other, but they spend more time with the room then with their parents. So they have a bad relationship with their parents. But a excellent relationship with the room.

2. How do you see power? How is power displayed?

The children have all the power in The Veldt because they controlled the room. Plus, the parents listened to the children. The power is shown because their parents wanted to shut down the house. And the children said, “No” and the parents kept the room on. Also the children created the room with their imagination. So that’s how the power is displayed in The Veldt.
